The Southeast Continues: Juneau, AK
Posted: May 31, 2012 Filed under: Alaskan Cities, Beer, Camping, Hiking, National and State Parks, Wildlife | Tags: Alaska, Juneau, landscape, Photography, Southeast Alaska, Travel 108 CommentsWe took way, way to many pictures (over 500) during our nine day trip so today I thought I would present the next leg of our journey in pictures.
Our Juneau, Alaska photo journal:
The M/V Columbia.
Wonderful visit to the Alaskan Brewing Company!
The view from Mt. Roberts (Juneau below).
Bald eagles at Auk Bay.
Handsome, Eagle.
One of the many harbors, plus the mountain reflection. Makes me happy.
Whale Tail: Step 1
Whale Tail: Step 2
Whale Tail: Step 3
Beach walk on our drive “out the road.”
Mendenhall Glacier. Love. Love. Love.
View of the Mendenhall from the west glacier trail.
Lake feed by the glacier, near our campground. Great views in our own backyard.
Steaming to Sitka!
Great photos! Thanks.

Wow, so very jealous. My wife and I drove to Alaska for our honeymoon (and took the ferry down to Prince Rupert). SE Alaska, especially Sitka, was our favorite area of the state.

I loved your photos. My visit to Juneau was last week and I’m posting photos soon. Yours made me want to get them posted even sooner! We didn’t make it to Sitka, but had a great time in Ketchikan and Skagway. The White Pass Railway was a spectacular view of the area between the Yukon and Skagway…those pictures are coming soon, too. Thanks so much for the inspiration…and I’ll be back to see more of your photos.

Your pictures caught my eye as I logged into WordPress this morning. I live in Sitka which is your next stop I take it! Have a good time. Don’t miss the Herring Cove Beaver Lake Trails, Totem Park, Old Harbor Books, The Backdoor, and the St. Michael’s Russian Orthodox Church. My great grandfather was the priest of that church at the turn of the century.

Wow. I just read through your adventure and it sounds spectacular. I have not thought about backpacking it before. I keep finding myself looking at cruises but the camper in me keeps saying that these are more about the ship than the actual exploration experience.

We really loved taking the ferry and camping. It is a rainy place, so you want to be okay with camping in the rain, but it was a great, less expensive, way to see the southeast. We also rented a car, so that helped keep some things dry 🙂
